A Beautiful Discovery

MN Historical Society

Doesn't that look refreshing?
After more than a week of extreme heat and humidity, this was exactly the kind of sight I was  craving....
So on the first day that the temps dropped below the  90 degree mark, we were ready for an outing!

I'm sort of embarrassed to admit that after 30 plus years of living here, I had not yet visited one of the most beautiful natural treasures of Minneapolis.....

These are the gorgeous Minnehaha Falls.....

I was trying to capture the mist here....
can you see it on the left side?

Nestled in limestone bluffs, this waterfall is a part
of the 167 acre Minnehaha Park.
Minnehaha is the Dakota word for waterfall.....

Jacob Fjelde's sculpture of Hiawatha and Minnehaha based on Longfellow's "Song of Hiawatha".....not the most historically accurate poem, but the sculpture is beautiful.

The park area is vast, and there is much to explore, including some lovely historical buildings and gardens.
We only had a couple of hours to spare, so I wanted to take in the beauty of the falls.....and if you follow the water just a bit more....

you can watch it flow into the mighty Mississippi...

Wishing everyone a magnificent week!

By the way, what did you think of the Opening Ceremony?

to a time long, long ago...

to a place quite far away...

Odessa, Ukraine

where a little dark-haired girl,
discovered magic every day.

Richard Scarry

 winter brought a special charm...
she knew it was enchanted..

sparkling snow, as soft as down

and these she waved....

for wishes granted.

Father Frost brought little gifts...

to place under the tree..

the splendor of the Nutcracker

made her squeal with glee

Odessa Opera House

Odessa Opera House

sparkling seaside...

she and Grandma searched for shells..
the pink ones were her favorite

I remember this so well....

All the beauty, all the magic

all the memories I now treasure...

thank you childhood...
thank you winter...

you've filled my soul with utmost pleasure....

Thank you, dear friends, for indulging me in this little trip down memory lane...hee...sorry if it was a bit corny!
I only spent the first six years of my life in Odessa, but I have such vivid seasonal memories....this was so much fun...
Thank you, lovely Marcia!

I hope the weather is beautiful in everyone's corner of the world...

Dreaming of Snowflakes

Happy Wednesday!

We finally got some much needed rain....after a sweltering few bet I was dreaming of snowflakes.
I hope everyone who is affected by the heat, humidity, and drought is staying safe, cool, and hydrated.

This was our view of the sky last night....

beautiful....but a bit eerie!

Speaking of snowflakes.....

The wonderful and talented Marcia at
will be hosting a Snow In July white-themed party!
Doesn't that sound refreshing right now?

This is my first time participating, but I am on board...

The train has left the station, and I look forward to sharing some magical winter memories...

Do stop by Marcia's this Friday....the party lasts through the weekend!

I have also been playing with some ideas for fairy houses. Just picked up a couple of bird houses and fun supplies at Michael's...I will share the pics when I am done.
In the meantime....isn't this so lovely and charming?

I purchased these whimsical tags from our splendid Anita
They are lightly glittered, and would be perfect for just about any occasion...
Anita's Etsy Shop is brimming with gorgeous goodies...
do take a look!

See you Friday!
